Her name, literally means, “That which is straight”. She is the goddess of truth and justice and represents divine order, truth, law and morality. She brings order, ending the chaos and giving structure to a world that was previously ruled by darkness.
Like most Egyptian goddesses, she is personified by duality. Both docile and aggressive, her twin represents another side of her personality. Her docile side she dispenses justice by pardoning while her aggressive side wastes no time in swiftly and visciously executing the condemned. She was much loved and revered by the Pharaohs.
The twins Mafdet and Mayet stand together and are each other’s alter-egos.
In another myth, she is the mother whose laughter was the thunder and whose tears were the rain.
